Monday

Today we went to La Jolla Beach & grilled burgers for lunch. Michael had so much fun yesterday at the beach that he went and bought 3 boogie boards for everyone to play with. When we got to the beach we all thought that the waves were a bit too big for Michael to be boogie boarding with his styrofoam board; however, being stubborn like he is, he thought he could handle the waves just fine! So he proceeds to climb down the rocks to the big waves. Let me just paint the picture for you...There are lots of surfers out this day with their REAL surf boards and fins (to fight the currents). Michael goes out in these HUGE waves with a styrofoam boogie board and without fins! He's in the foreground of the picture below...the rest are the real surfers!

This is his side of the story: For the most part he stayed off to the side by himself...he said to stay out of the way of the surfers. So he's out in these huge ways by himself without fins. He's like a sitting duck! He kept waiting for "the" wave to ride in on his boogie board. Well, that wave never came, and he kept getting farther and farther out. Finally, a lifeguard swims out to him. Michael said the guy told him his boss noticed how far out he was without fins, and told him to go check on Michael. Michael then claims the guy was showing him how to ride the waves in, and they came in together. WE all think he had to be rescued, but he won't admit that to us! LOL Either way, I was glad he was out of those big waves, especially since the guys next to us told us they saw a five foot shark out exactly where he was the day before!!!

La Jolla is an up-scale San Diego area. We walked down to the small beach area where lots of people were swimming and snorkeling. We saw a few sea lions out that day also. Mrs. Janice and Kristen got a little too close to the water, and got wet. Kristen almost lost her flip flops, but Mrs. Janice never took her shoes off,and tried to outrun the water. She didn't make it. One foot/shoe/sock got completely soaked! She tried to dry her sock out by flying it like a flag out of the convertible for the afternoon! That was a sight!

Um..this is me. I did not put sunscreen on that day, and got burned! Can you see my skin getting red???

After that we made a stop at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory! YUM!!! Couldn't pass that up!

Garrett just chillin'! I did put sunscreen on him everyday! He came back from California with a nice tan & some natural highlights!

After enjoying our chocolate we drove to Mt. Soledad Memorial. There were beautiful views from the memorial.

Finally we tried to go to Cabrillo National Monument, but it closed at 6pm, so we ended up at Sunset Cliffs instead. Michael, Mr. Phil, Kristen, and Alita went exploring down the cliffs, while Mrs. Janice, Garrett and I just hung out waiting for the sunset.

It got pretty chilly again this evening, so the sunset couldn't come fast enough for us! But finally it happened, and it was beautiful!
